I take a beta blocker. It is a new one and it have minimal side affects. Other blood pressure meds raised my potassium levels but did not lower my BP to the desired levels.

I don’t have high blood pressure so I don’t take any medications even similar to this. Just based on reading this report, I don’t think I would take a beta blocker. The risks seem worse than the benefits. If I was in the position of needing them, I might feel differently.

Ernestine, I agree that you should not take beta-blockers unless you really need them. Beta-blockers have been shown to produce great results for many people, but as with any drug, there are certain people for unknown reasons that do not react well with certain drugs. My mother was prescribed a beta-blocker for pre-hypertension, and she did not take it. Instead she changed her lifestyle and lost 30 pounds. Now her blood pressure is right where it should be. What it boils down to is what your own situation is. Talk to your doctor and make sure you are FULLY aware of what you are taking. After all, why take something if you don’t have to?
